My Mustang quite nearly joined the ranks of the thousands of pedestrian slaying ‘stangs that we’ve been seeing. I was driving through a residential area at 6 this morning. I was going 30mph as I approached a crosswalk (in DC, the law says that you have to stop at a non-intersection crosswalk to let pedestrians across). As I got within what seemed like a car length, I saw a runner (aka a fucking bozo wearing all black while running across the street before dawn) literally within 5 feet running for the street. I slammed on the brakes, ABS kicked in, and I came to a dead stop with my Mustang’s nose within the crosswalk. The runner yelled something unintelligible and I was on my way. My Mustang begrudgingly carried on, ever hungry for blood. On a positive note, I didn’t need any coffee this morning.

I am so tired of all the idiot pedestrians in all black and the people who ride their bikes in dark clothes without any reflectors or lights.

A million times this. Maybe it’s just me being an asshole, but I have no sympathy for someone who gets ran over when they do nothing to help themselves. Why on earth would you wear all black if you’re out walking/jogging/running at night?!

They may have the right of way, but cars have physics on theor side... or not, I guess if your expecting them to be as nimble as a person or a cyclist. How about they do themselves and the car driving public a service and wear something bright and reflective? Seems logical to me. Especially if a runner, or cyclist for that matter, is also choosing to plug up their ear holes with something that drowns out the ambient sounds, like, um a CAR. Some people are just not bright.... hey see what I did there? Not... bright.... I’ll be here all day folks.

The runner is a moron! I wear a reflective vest and blinking bicycle lights front and back when I run in the dark. It looks goofy, but if they can see you they can at least try to avoid you!
And crossing ANY crosswalk I look to see if the driver sees me. Just assuming they have seen you is idiocy.

just cuz they have the right of way doesn;t mean they should just run out there. When I bike I wear highlighter-yellow shirt.

I had a similar incident, except I was the pedestrian.
/rant
I was at a crosswalk during rush hour. I waited until for the walk signal and walked across. Six lanes or so, two way traffic with the far side a right turn only lane. I’m walking across about to successfully getting across ans some idiot comes screaming into the crosswalk. I caught him just as I cleared a full size truck and i knew he couldn’t stop.
Sorta stops halfway into the cross walk. I was within arms reach of his mirror and I was dead center in the cross walk. The guy has the balls to kinda wave, like thanks for stopping, he continues on his merry way without ever fully stopping despite the red light and cross traffic having a green light.
I legitimately thought I was going to get hit by him. Stupid people.

I almost died this morning. The scene: 4 lane divided highway, construction zone, 60 mph limit, 4:45 am. An idiot in a construction van decided to pull out (from a dead stop, mind you) from the median into the highway, cross his lane and my lane, and get off at an exit about 75 feet from where he entered the highway. Luckily, I saw the guy in the median and had one of those gut feelings, so I had slowed down to 50. If I had been going 60, would’ve broadsided him. Of course, there was no one behind me for at least a mile, so the guy would’ve had plenty of time to leisurely pull his maneuver after I had passed. This would’ve been the second car I’ve owned (and loved) that was destroyed by a jackwagon in a construction vehicle.
BTW, it convinced me I need a dashcam!

As a pedestrian, I simply never assume that a car is stopping to let me cross. Why he thought that I had night vision goggles on and some sort of parachute-braking device is beyond me. Then he’s going to yell at me. Wish I could have heard what he said. Hey, maybe he was enthusiastically apologizing.

I had this happen to me a while ago. I was coming to a cross walk and there was a huge truck in front of me making a right hand turn at a T intersection (my way had no stop sign or light). A pedestrian walked out from behind the truck right in front of me and I had to slam on my brakes to stop. They didn’t seem to mind. I was shaking. How they expected me to see them I’ll never know.

Oh I’m sure he was apologizing. That’s what they call it these days anyway...
